Elizabeth - The inspiration behind the design

It's been a while since my last blog post so I thought I would step back into my little blog with a post about one of my recent new designs called Elizabeth. I love wildflower meadows and for a while I've had an idea to design an embroidery pattern which incorporates cornflowers, daisies and poppies. They often all appear in wildflower meadows and look so beautiful together.

I enjoy taking my own photographs and often take photos of flowers that inspire me so I can refer back to them. The photo above was taken a few years ago after discovering a beautiful patch of wildflowers whilst out walking. The red, white and blue flowers look so striking together and fittingly patriotic.

With the Platinum Jubilee happening this year, I thought it would be the perfect time to launch a special design as a tribute to the Queen's 70 year reign. I began thinking about various ideas and thought the combination of cornflowers, daisies and poppies would be the ideal flowers to create a commemorative design. So I started sketching and once I was happy with the design it was ready to be made into a screen. As soon as the screen arrived I couldn't wait to test print the design onto wool felt and I was really happy with how it looked and was eager to start stitching!

And here she is... Elizabeth

I really enjoyed stitching this design and couldn't wait to share it with you! Elizabeth launched at the end of May, just in time for Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. I'm always apprehensive before the launch of a new design but I needn't be as it was so well received. Lots of my stockists also placed orders so it felt like an Elizabeth production line for a while! I'm so pleased that in the couple of months since the launch it has become another favourite design of yours.

I would love to put a collage together using photos of your Elizabeth hearts. So please do send me your photo if you would like to be included within the collage. I've received some beautiful photos already so thank you for sharing them with me.

Happy Stitching!
